Her first job was in the business of music at a very young age. at the age of 10 years old, she took part in local contests and recorded her first album. In 1985, she signed with Rounder Records and in 1987 she released her first solo album. She was invited to join the band who she continues to perform Alison Krauss and Union Station and released her first album in the group in 1989.
